Done

2 Samuel 12:11-14 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

Here are the consequences for David’s sins from 2 Samuel 11. Sin has consequences and those cannot be avoided. I will not make lite of any of those consequences, nor should we make lite of our own. Here is my point about David’s sin.

Acts 13:22c I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Nowhere in the fifty-four verses about David in the New Testament will you find one mention of David’s sins. It is done, God does not bring it up again. Consequences paid, repentance made, forgiveness given and never again does God talk about it.

How often to do we revisit the sins of our past, those which we have paid the consequences, repented and gained forgive? God is not talking about it. Who are you listening to in those moments? Satan the liar or your own unforgiveness? If God has forgiven you why are you holding yourself guilty? The price has been paid. Are you not believing God when He declares you are forgiven?

1 John 2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

Forgive yourselves for Christ’s sake.

  1. You have clearly stated a valuable truth. I particularly loved:
“God is not talking about it. Who are you listening to.” We have a relentless accuser.
So well said, my brother! Thanks so much.

  2. Maybe we know and accept the forgiveness but revisit the consequences we were dealt and think about how different things might have been. Not good either, but just saying.
