Listen Vs Hearing

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Be honest with yourself, do you listen to people, shows, news, or even music which support your thinking? We all want to be right, but is shutting yourself off from those who disagree with you really strengthen your position?

You will always find people who will agree with you. I do not care how radical and wrong your thought process might be, you can find someone who agrees with you. Agreement in and of itself does not mean your thinking is right. One must listen to all points of view to hear the truth.

2 Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

A fable is entertaining fiction. When I came out of the movie theater from watching The Matrix for the first time, I was so taken by the fiction that the world did not seem real to me anymore. It was almost as if I had been duped into believing a lie my whole life. The fiction seemed more possible than the truth.

Sadly many people have not come to know the Truth.

Isaiah 43:8-10 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

To know the LORD is to know truth.

Another Comforter

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

The Amplified Version of the Bible adds these terms to describe “another Comforter”; Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. The Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition uses the word Paraclete which is literally a paralegal. This insinuates that we are or get ourselves in trouble.

Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament terms defines paracletos as one who is sent to plead another’s cause to one.

Now let us place this plea in a proper perspective of who it is we are talking about. The another Comforter is the Holy Spirit. Now who’s cause is He pleading?

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Our advocate before the Father over the issues of our sins is Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is sent to us to plead the cause of Christ to us. We do not need to have our actions justified here on earth, we need to have them corrected.

The Holy Spirit who is another Comforter is not Jesus Christ. They have separate roles and responsibilities within the will of the Father. Jesus testified of Himself, Who He was and what He is doing. The Holy Spirit does not testify of Himself, He testifies of Jesus Christ, He is the other Comforter.

Ephesians 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

For His cause.
