Seeing is Believing

1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

There are two schools of thought here, both are a form of seeing. A sign in this context is seeing what is expected, prophecy fulfilled, a promise kept, but that requires a proper understanding of the prophecy or promise. Wisdom is a right conclusion or outcome to an expectation based in logic, it makes sense. Once again a right understanding is required of events and circumstance for reasoning to become wisdom.

We use the term “I see” to mean I understand. Wisdom is an understanding. Both the Jew and the Greek take a different approach to the same issue, the truth. What good does it do to understand a lie?

The great obstacle for the religious and the intellectual is the lie.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Genesis 3:14-15 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Satan was cursed for that first lie. His realm became dust, death and the enmity continues to this day. His only weapon against us is the lie. Our only defense against him is truth.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

See Jesus, see truth, the sign and wisdom. A proper and right understanding.
