My Works

Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Praise God that we shall enter into His rest as promised here. I know that many think about what that will be like. There are not enough words to describe entering into His rest that gives us a clear picture of what it will be like.

Here in Hebrews 4:10 I see that I will cease from doing my works. Does that mean I won’t have anything meaningful to do in His rest? Can I examine my works to exclude those things which will no longer be part of my life in His rest?

I worked to eat. I won’t need to eat to sustain life with an eternal body. I also eat for pleasure, does that mean I will no longer have the pleasure of eating? Will pleasure no longer be a part of my existence in His rest?

Sin will no longer be a problem. Sin has been put to death at the Cross. Whatever we do will be sinless because we will have been translated into perfection. As much as I desire that, I know nothing about it.

How about vanity? Vanity is defined as emptiness as to results. So results are tied to effort which is a work, therefor vanity fades without works. Is humility the absence of vanity? I don’t know. But I will know because the word says I will know as I am known.

What will I know? Will I even care about what I know since time has passed away and there is nothing to be done about anything as all final judgments have been rendered? That is another thing that will go the way of my works. There will be nothing left to judge. There is no right or wrong in His rest, only perfection.
