Anti-christ

Revelation 21:23

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.

Darkness is a life without Jesus Christ.

And darkness denies Him.

Is it possible that hell is dark and absent of all light?

I don’t know and it is acceptable to say we don’t know and I hope none of my readers ever find out what hell is like.. There have been many things written about hell, Dante’s Inferno comes to mind.

Jesus talks about a fiery furnace in explaining the parable of the weeds in Matthew 13:42. In verse 50 Jesus says there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 22:13

Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Here Jesus speaks of the wedding guest who did not have the proper robes for the wedding being cast into the outer darkness. We now know that a furnace can create heat without light, but a reader of His word thousands of years ago would have associated a fiery furnace with the light of a fire.

We should remember that parables were told to give understanding to a people in a time when things they could relate to their lives are different from what we see today.

There was a time when the gospel was presented in a way that was meant to scare the hell out of you. People only wanted to avoid damnation and that is perhaps why some guests could show up to the wedding feast without the robes of righteousness.

Then there was a shift to the love of God and mercy and grace and forgiveness where we were being welcomed into the family of God. A better approach than hellfire and damnation but not the only approach. For me it was that burning bush moment. “What is that?” God revealed Himself in a way that said there is a sovereign God that I knew nothing about. “I will go and see.” That was what drew me to God. It all boils down to being chosen.

Matthew 22:14

For many are called, but few are chosen.”
