Weakness

2 Corinthians 12:9 English Standard Version (ESV) But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Is this weakness physical, emotional, or spiritual? The Lord declares My Grace, My Power. That is our Lord and His grace and power are perfect so why does He say they are “made perfect in weakness”?

The Lord is with us always as promised. If our weakness is physical or emotional or spiritual then He would be here for any and all of the ills of the body, mind and soul. What if weakness is something else altogether?

Grace and power are exercised through the Spirit in us. Perhaps we block them because we are doing “things” in our own strength?

1 Corinthians 15:43 English Standard Version (ESV) It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.

When I admit “I cannot” God says “No problem, now I can.” God does not seem to interfere with our desire to be in charge. He needs part of that from us to fulfill our responsibilities. Then there are those times when we just get in His way. We act like Beta blockers to grace and power. We want to be seen rather than to let Christ shine forth.

We spend much of our lives building this persona, our identity, and character that can be difficult to let go of that. Our Lord wants to do to be seen in us. We fool ourselves into thinking we can be good enough. In our own strength we fail. That is why we needed a Lord and Savior in the first place.

When things get difficult sometimes it is easier to slip back into old habits than it is to “be weak”.
