Matthew 8:20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

In recent years much has been said about preachers who live in million dollar mansions. I will not judge the choices of another. I don’t care where you live or what car you drive, or the clothes you wear, or the watches and rings you own. They are but things.

Rather than looking at Matthew 8:20 as an example of how the perfect man lived, see why He said what He said and to whom He spoke.

Matthew 8:19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

Jesus looked into the heart of the scribe and spoke directly to the issue that would prevent this man from following Him. Jesus did not care about the man’s history, role, title, robes, but challenged the man to examine his faith in the face of personal comfort. What things keep you from following Jesus?

Numbers 14:21-24 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord. Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

Don’t let things stop you from hearkening to His voice and following Him.
