Secular

Psalm 63:6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Game of Thrones is a secular fantasy, set in the mythical world with dragons and walking dead. Set within this fantasy is a character called the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. I have watched many seasons of this series and have just now connected this character to my own life.

Who is the Lord Commander of your Night’s Watch?

Jesus Christ of course.

The secular world has no interest in glorifying God. It will disparage all that is Holy, Right and True. Yet within the confines of those writings emerges a semblance of godliness which they did not intend. A reminder that even in the darkest of worlds a light shines and hope springs eternal.

The line assigned to the Night’s Watch is defender on the wall, humanities last hope against the evil that lies beyond. No matter what their intent was, I cannot help but see my role in this world as part of the Night’s Watch, and Jesus Christ as my Lord Commander.

Faithful and loyal to a fault is the Night’s Watch, only death can end the service of a Brother of the Night’s Watch. We lost a brother, speak his praises and lift up our voices in unison to speak of him one last time.

What a great tribute to the men of the Night’s Watch as they go to sleep one last time. We remember the Brotherhood, the Standing in the Gap, to Stand Watch, to have each other’s back in this battle.

Allow me to steal a moment out of the secular world and salute our fallen brother. Raise up praise unto our Lord Commander whom he served well and add our voices to His as He regales a faithful tale.

“And now his watch has ended.”
