Rebekah

Genesis 27:8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.

Have you heard the term Mother Church? We know that we who live in this church age are the bride of Christ. With this in mind, I would like to look at the actions of Rebekah, Isaac’s wife and the mother of Esau and Jacob. The facts of the story are contained in Genesis 25 through 28.

Here in this verse we identify Rebekah not as just a conspirator with Jacob to steal Isaac’s blessing from Esau, she instigated the theft. Knowing Isaac’s plans and intensions and traditions, she sought to help the son she loved over the intentions of her husband.

She instructed Jacob, she seasoned the goat to taste like venison, she dressed Jacob in Esau’s clothes and she placed animal skins upon the hands and neck of Jacob to deceive Isaac. While there are many spiritual implications within her actions, while there are things I could and might say about all that occurred, I will not. I will not because this is what I saw this morning.

Isaac never once lifted a finger of accusation towards Rebekah for her part in all this.

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Blameless.
