Elohim

Elohim in the Septuagint: theos – the standard Greek word for god, “a transcendent being who exercises extraordinary control in human affairs or is responsible for bestowal of unusual benefits” (BDAG). It specifically refers to the monotheistic God of Israel.

Meaning and Derivation: Elohim is translated as “God.” The derivation of the name Elohim is debatable to most scholars. Some believe it derived from ‘êl which, in turn, originates from the root word, ‘wl (which means “strong”). Others think that Elohim is derived from another two roots: ‘lh (which means “god”) in conjunction with ‘elôah (which means “fear”). And still others presume that both ‘êl and Elohim come from ‘eloah.

Don’t you just love it when scholars cannot agree? That is a truth that we are all fallible. God on the other hand is infallible. What better name is there to express this God on the throne from the beginning of time to the end of time?

“This is my creation, it is mine, and I will do with it whatever I please.”

That is not a quote from God but the essence of the definition of Elohim, God Creator Judge.

2 Chronicles 19:7 Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

Romans 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

This doesn’t mean God does not care, it only indicates His judgments are fair and just. If we will take heed to all His counsels and respect Him in all that He does, our love for Him will not wax cold.

Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

My prophetic side sees iniquity in this world waiting for God’s final judgment. My heart is to seek reconciliation for the lost. It is a struggle within me to balance His gifts within me because I see things in black and white. I recognize that and I have to fight it daily.

El Olam

Genesis 21:33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.

El Olam; the everlasting God.

It is also interpreted as the Eternal God. It is not lost on me that the name is first used in conjunction with this response by Abraham to a substantive event in Abraham’s life. Abraham made a covenant with Abimelech over the water well named Beersheba, the well of refreshing.

The planting of the grove, fruit bearing, seed producing, seed planting, tree growth, on and on generation after generation was in itself not only a memorial to the God of Abraham but unto the process by which God should be known unto all men time after time and time again.

Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

That precious seed of Abraham is Christ Jesus. Planting Christ in your heart is the everlasting chain of producing the good fruit that reproduces the good seed, which gets planted once again, into the hearts of the lost.

Matthew 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Only El Olam could bring life from death.

Romans 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

By the glory of the Father, El Olam, our eternal God.
