Intentions

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Much is said about the mind and the heart throughout scriptures and from my perspective it has not always been clear as to the division of responsibility. Memories fail and we misquote. We have compassion on others and often our actions to help make things worse. Suddenly I become confused as to the fuzzy lines between choices and intentions.

I wonder even now as I write if what I see is of any use to help. Then I look back over the scripture and there it is, plain as day and obvious. The Word of God is….. I am not. My thoughts and intentions are not, the Word of God is. It is not that my fails or my intentions are wrong, it is that far too often I proceed without the help, advice and direction of the Word of God.

We like children grow and break the chains of dependency from our parents. They raised us to take over our own lives and make decisions. We do not check in with dad unless we get in trouble. Then so often it isn’t guidance we seek. Do we treat God the same way? Have we gotten comfortable or do we only seek God as backup?

The heart if the seat of intention. Intention is great, it is desired to be godly, but intention in and of itself does not know how to enact the will of God. The lines are drawn by the Word of God, accessed and determined by obedience of faith. You know where faith comes from.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
