First

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Have you heard the physician’s creed? All I know is “First do no harm.” I am sure there is more to it than that, but for me this day, “First do no harm.” I take my stand in Christ at this moment in this thought.

I’ve been toying with an amusing thought. It is based in science and has a funny parallel in the spirit which is not funny, but sound in principle and design. If I were to link this joke to Christ, I fear that I make fun of Christ and that would do harm to this ministry, which I take very seriously.

The fact remains that I am human and I have a human sense of humor. I can be sarcastic. I love a really good pun. I have a quick wit. All that is carnal and even if not sinful in design, it is sinful by nature. I should refrain from mixing fabrics.

Isaiah 1:22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:

There is no way to fix a bad joke other than to not tell it.

  1. WOW! I sure resonate with your post this morning. Like you, I love a good pun…but what I took away this morning is your very important statement, “let’s not mix fabrics”. Sensitivity to the person of our Lord Jesus is a work of the Spirit of God in us. Your title word “First” brought to mind, “seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God” ……this has also helped me. Love your blog, thank you.
