      In Jhn 19:30 the word means, “It is finished.” Christ satisfied God’s justice by dying for all to pay for the sins of the elect. These sins can never be punished again since that would violate God’s justice. Sins can only be punished once, either by a substitute or by yourself.

No single word can completely accomplish all that the life of Christ means to us and yet we hear words that seem obvious to anyone who only looks toward that final moment.

Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Fulfill in the Greek carries this Biblical usage; to carry through to the end (i.e. finish)

Whoever is born of water must die. Jesus was born of water and had to die, it was what he accomplished between those two events that changed the world.
