We Forgot

Isaiah 24:5 English Standard Version (ESV) The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.

We forgot that the earth was cursed because we sinned. That doesn’t seem fair to a land that did nothing but give us a place to live. But it did not give us anything, God provided and we were given dominion and what happens to the earth is the result of our not keeping covenant.

Genesis 3:17-19 English Standard Version (ESV)

17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

The covenant of dominion did not end, our responsibility for where we live did not end. Look what we have done to it. We have used and abused our planet in the name of dominion without care for it. The word dominion is a word of responsibility. It means to rule but what is a ruler who does not take care of his dominion? He is a destroyer, a waste of time, talent and resources.

We forgot that what God gives, He will take away if we do not keep covenant.

Job 1:20-22 English Standard Version (ESV)

20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” 22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.

Flooding

Luke 17:26 English Standard Version (ESV) Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.

The people that were taken in the flood of Noah’s days did not have any idea what a flood was or that it was coming. Noah was warned and prepared.

We are warned about the coming of the days of the Son of Man. It will not be another flood for God has promised but the warnings signs are given to us in order for us to prepare.

What do we do if we know a flood is coming? We look to protect those things we care about the most. In a water flood we take stock of the things that are irreplaceable first. We have spent a lifetime together and over the years there will be things that we will miss if we do not attempt to take them with us.

This coming flood will not be one of water yet the sense of loss is the same. So we should examine that which is dear to us and do everything we can to try and take them with us. Have our children accepted Christ? Have our siblings accepted Christ? Have our dearest friends found Christ?

We will not to be allowed to take our photographs, books, records or jewelry with us come this next flood. We will see at some point that we are to be taken up in safety ourselves and then it will be too late to gather our cares.

Now comes the more difficult caring. Have you shown Jesus to those you hate? Jesus loves them even if we do not. Nothing is going to change what is coming, but we might be able to make a difference in a life that is being lived out in these days. Luke 17:26 says the days of the Son of Man which leads us to believe that even as we see that day approach there is still time to tell others of Jesus Christ.
