Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
The first active step in the recipe says to let 3 cups of water come to a rolling boil. All the prep work is done, every ingredient has been cleaned and chopped and seasoned and now we have to wait patiently for the water to come to a rolling boil.
Have you ever watched the water waiting for the first signs of the coming boil? All sense of time seems to stand still and impatience grows. There is nothing left to do but wait patiently.
This is like one of Jesus’ parables and as such it has a point so let us talk about that. Since it is my parable then here is the focal point.
Which recipe are you using?
Is the goal to be satisfied or to be healthy or the fad of the day?
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
God’s recipe is for our present wellbeing, meaning safety. His recipe avoids the guilt that comes from seeking personal satisfaction. His recipe sustains life, a future. His recipe gives us hope, it satisfies our spirit.
So where are these recipes? In His Holy Scriptures.
We have free will and get to choose which recipe is right for us.
“I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!”
Psalm 34 is a tasty recipe, enjoy.
