Freedom

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

Freedom:

The law of Moses pointed out the cases in which the servants of the Hebrews were to receive their freedom (Exd 21:2-4,7,8; Lev 25:39-42,47-55; Deu 15:12-18). Under the Roman law the “freeman” (ingenuus) was one born free; the “freedman” (libertinus) was a manumitted slave, and had not equal rights with the freeman (Act 22:28; Act 16:37-39; 21:39; 22:25; 25:11,12).

Obviously there is a vast difference between biblical and worldly definitions.

In the world we have the right to act and speak as we want. That implies that the law cannot stop you from murder or conspiring to murder. However if you are caught, tried and found guilty, you can be punished for breaking the law. At least that is how most legal systems should work. There is an inherent delusion that others don’t have the right to judge sinners.

The bible definition is applicable to a defined class of individuals. Under Hebrew law a poor person could sell himself into servitude with limits. The Roman application defined a Roman born citizen to be a free person. In their view only Romans had rights.

In the biblical view we discover the power of God is the only way to break the power of sin that makes no distinction in class citizenship and everyone is subject to judgment.

1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Hebrews 2:14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

If one does not believe in God then they do not believe in the devil and without the law sin doesn’t exist and they will not see the chains that hold them captive. It is a sin attitude.

Isaiah 22:13 and behold, joy and gladness, killing oxen and slaughtering sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine. “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

Witness

2 Samuel 7:22 Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Surround yourself with liars, what do you believe?

The easy answer to that question is anything you want. Those infecting you don’t care.

The opening verse is from a prayer from King David who had some impressive experiences himself and yet he did not rely on just his own experiences to determine God’s greatness.

2 Samuel 7:21 Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it.

We cannot trust liars. If they make promises, they break them. That is what liars do.

God made promises throughout His dealings with Israel. He kept every one of them.

Hebrews 12:1

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Those who surround us have the greatest influence over us. How do we break the cycle of lies that have whole generations of liars influencing so many?

Exodus 14:13 Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. (Quoted in part)

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

Stand for the truth.

The Whole Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Ephesians 6:10

Our first battle armor is the belt of truth.
