Mark 14:62-63 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

The Pharisees, scribes and elders were looking for an excuse to kill Jesus. Their conspiracy to do so was falling apart as they could not find two witnesses that agreed on the lies and accusations they brought against Him. The law failed them and the law fails us.

The law cannot bring us into covenant relationship with God. That is what we should be trying to accomplish and Jesus answers with truth but they called it blasphemy. For their plans to succeed, they had all they needed. For God’s plan He had all He needed.

But what about you? What do you need? A savior? A Lord? A friend? A teacher? A King? A Physician? Jesus can be what you need if you will believe. The Pharisees, scribes and elders got what they wanted, a scapegoat.

Leviticus 16:8, 10, 26  And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness. And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.

Little did they know they fulfilled the law in ways they did not intend. They did not see that their actions made it possible for our sins to be forgiven (was his clothes), become new creations (bathe in water), and enter into a relationship with God and His followers (come into the camp).
