Isaiah 43:1 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

Isaiah 45:3 I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who call you by your name.

Have you ever noticed how His word changes from past tense to future tense on the same subject? On the subject of hearing God in 43:1 it is “I have” and in 45:3 it is “I will”.

At what point in our lives can we expect to hear His voice?

I recently saw a preacher’s video on this very subject and I was somewhat surprised at his answer. “What makes you think you haven’t already?”

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

This was easily understood by those that lived while Jesus walked the earth because He was alive right in front of them. Now in this time while He sits on the throne of heaven it is not so easy and yet we want that same experience. If we can’t hear His voice we fear that we might not be saved.

Psalm 42:7 Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.

It is hard to hear with the ear in the midst of the roar.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

We err when we expect a physical response to a spiritual need. Imagine His response to us if we were to say to Him, “I will not believe you unless I get my way.”

Luke 7:32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another,

Listen to yourselves and that is all you will hear.
