PS 24 2

Psalm 24:2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Once again we are drawn back to the foundations of the world, Genesis for one, John 1 for another.

Genesis 1:2b And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

John 1::3a  All things were made by him; (the Word, Jesus Christ)

Here we have unity in will and purpose, agreement in making the commitment to create it. So what is it? I ask because of the second part of Psalm 24:2 where there is an establishment of it after the creation in the flood? Now we go seeking what it is and why the flood was mentioned.

Genesis 9:17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

We are at a critical point of our study here where we can become vain creatures if we do not seek God’s truth in these matters. Founded and established with Psalm 24:2 indicates purpose of intention and on this matter we must rely on the Word of God to understand and not go astray.

Genesis 6:5-6 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Mankind, left to their own invention, did evil. Man did not turn return to God.

Romans 8:20-21 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

God’s heart was that mankind would return to Him and become children freed from the bondage of sin. Knowing that man would not come to Him on their own, God established a covenant with man, thru Noah. Man could not to be left to his own devices.

Psalm 24

Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

By virtue of first word usage, earth here should be thought of as that which God created, everything, hence the reference to its vast expanse. The fullness is a direct reference to our ability to comprehend. Is the glass have full or half empty? It is only full if you accept that there is substance within the glass that you cannot see, feel or touch. See Colossians 1:16 for validation.

As we discover that vastness we either wonder about its possibilities or are awed by the reach of our God’s capability, majesty and influence. This might be the beginning of that moment of seeking. Will it become an exercise in vanity or seeking God for His truths in all matters.

Then comes: the world and the inhabitants. Much of the universe is uninhabitable even if man has ventured by invention into inhospitable zones of space and lands. So the world should be considered a hospitable zone for life, a place of pleasure and senses, that half full cup. Here we are not yet aware of the other half of the cup which is yet to be discovered. Those things we do not sense with eyes, ears, touch and taste for they are spiritual.

The last observation I would like to make here is ownership, it all belongs to God the creator even if they are unaware of His existence. Their awareness does not alter ownership. Their worship does not alter ownership. In this we are all together, equals in creation.

All men are created equal. Do we treat them as such? Do we honor God’s creation and respect that His love for them is as unwavering as it is for you and me?
