Apostasy

Jeremiah 2:19 English Standard Version (ESV) Your evil will chastise you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, declares the Lord God of hosts.

Apostasy is a falling away in a relationship with our Lord, forsaking our Lord.

Hosea 14:4 English Standard Version (ESV) I will heal their apostasy;  I will love them freely, for my anger has turned from them.

The cure for any damaged relationship is love and mercy.

Jesus likened it to love running cold.

Matthew 24:11-12 English Standard Version

11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

The priest accused Paul of being an apostate because he was teaching Christ in the synagogues, saying he had fallen away from the Jewish faith. In many ways these false prophets and teachers Jesus warns us about are trying to get the faithful to cling to knowledge and forsake our relationship with the Lord.

The only protection from false prophets and teachers is a close personal relationship with the Lord.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 English Standard Version

1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,

The list of insincere lies remains unsaid here because the list is much longer today. The stronger our faith is, the more cunning the lies of the enemy become. Be careful who we listen to these days.

Bit by Bit

Isaiah 28:9-10 English Standard Version

9 “To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast?

10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”

1 Corinthians 8:1 English Standard Version

Food Offered to Idols

1 Now concerning[a] food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up.

Footnote [a] The expression Now concerning introduces a reply to a question in the Corinthians’ letter; see 7:1

The comments “Food Offered to Idols” and the footnote were added to this version of the bible by revisionists.

There is a general understanding about the nature of mankind that we all need help to gain a proper understanding of things. Call it a school of understanding but in reality the impatience in our nature does not wait on the Lord. Isaiah points us to God’s method of dealing with our natural instincts. The milk of the Word produces growth so that we might grow in knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Gaining knowledge for the sake of having knowledge neglects the attributes of relationship to our Lord which is the primary goal of scripture.

Hebrews 5:11-13 English Standard Version

Warning Against Apostasy

11 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.

Again the revisionists tell us what to think because we know how easy it is to put knowledge before our relationship with the Lord. Relationships suffer when we stop listening..
