Be Seen

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

1 Peter 1:15-17 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

Ephesians 5:14-16 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Be seen as walking in the light. I have quoted these passages to speak as plainly as possible in His Word. Circumspectly means that the light presents sin in your path for you to avoid. Avoid sin as you would a mud puddle while wearing your best attire.

Our best witness is not in hiding our sins from others, it is in avoiding sin in the first place.

Detour

Psalm 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

You are in an area for the first time and suddenly the road is barricaded with a huge sign declaring “Bridge out. Detour.” Would you ignore the sign and drive around the barricade and speed on to your destruction? Not if you valued your life you wouldn’t.

But what if you didn’t value your life?

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Here is Abraham taking that detour, not knowing where it lead. He was called to choose a different path. All of us that follow Jesus were called out in a similar manner. What does that look like to a non-believer?

I believe it starts within the non-believer that finds they no longer value their lives as they once did. It can take on many forms and does not have to be as dramatic as self-destructive behavior, but sometimes it is just that.

So at this point you have decided to heed the detour sign. Now you are searching for another path to the value of life. You still don’t know where you are going, but you have moved away from obvious danger. What sets your course?

Hopefully somewhere in your life the gospel had been heard. Someone cared enough to hand you a tract, given you a New Testament mini-bible, or taken the time to ask you searching questions.

I was once told that there are many paths to God. So I asked, “Which God and which path have you chosen?” The dead silence response showed me that this person had not made a choice and was using the term defensively.

Allow me to skip over many possibilities and make this observation from my experience. It is the first work of the Holy Spirit to stir up those feelings of dissatisfaction.

Go with the One who has sent you that Holy Spirit with your detour sign. Follow Him.
