1 Corinthians 12:7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
This word only appears once in the ESV. Here is Strong’s definition. φανέρωσις phanérōsis, fan-er’-o-sis; from G5319; exhibition, i.e. (figuratively) expression, (by extension) a bestowment:—manifestation.
Note closely the term bestowment.
In the KJV there is a different Greek word used.
Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
That word is ἀποκάλυψις apokálypsis, ap-ok-al’-oop-sis; from G601; disclosure:—appearing, coming, lighten, manifestation, be revealed, revelation.
A revelation of a promise is a thing hoped for until that promise is fulfilled.
Expectation is not a manifestation.
The knowledge of hope and the impatience of vanity may very well produce in a person a false persona that is not the Spirit bestowed. Some are said to have faked it until they made it. This is not how the Spirit works. He reveals Himself by the will of the Father to the glory of the Son, Jesus Christ, not mankind’s manifestations.
What is manifested in mankind?
Sin in its varied forms. From pride of life all the way down to bestiality. Man likes to qualify sin as being worse than their own to make themselves feel good. All sin, no matter what form it takes, is abhorrent to God.
We inherit sin through our gene pool. We have no control over our genetic makeup.
We all have unknown maladies until diagnosed. Manifestations of the Holy Spirit is not a diagnosis.
