Addressing in this verse is the Greek work lego. This is what Vine’s has to say.

Primarily, “to pick out, gather,” chiefly denotes “to say, speak, affirm,” whether of actual speech, or of unspoken thought, or of a message in writing. The 2nd aorist form eipon is used to supply that tense, which is lacking in lego.

Concerning the phrase “he answered and said,” it is a well known peculiarity of Hebrew narrative style that a speech is introduced, not simply by “and he said,” but by prefixing “and he answered” (apokrinomai, with eipon). In “saying,” and “and saith,” emphasis is perhaps laid on the fact that the Lord, hitherto silent as He moved over the lake, then addressed His disciples. That the phrase sometimes occurs where no explicit question has preceded. (End quote)

The Word is the best answer to any question, spoken or unspoken. Loving one another as disciples of Christ leads us to care about the needs of others but this is about spiritual needs and not physical needs. The best answer to all spiritual needs is found in His Word which abides in our hearts.

We have a tendency to keep spiritual needs to ourselves. Many times they are difficult to put into words because the flesh opposes the spirit at every turn. Since Christ abides in our hearts, we can trust that the Lord will recognize spiritual needs and use one another to answer these unspoken questions using the Word.

Look to discussion groups and discover that shepherds tend to quote scripture rather than addressing comments made by others in the flesh. It is their way of adhering to Ephesians 5:19 in addressing our spiritual needs.
