God is Righteous

Psalm 7:9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

Human judges can get it wrong, God who judges the hearts and actions of man is right in every judgment. This is a character of God in His interaction with His creation. If we are to trust this God who is Holy, Loving and Just, then He must be right, all the time.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

If He were to change, that would indicate our God had been wrong. We depend on that in the promises God makes to us, in that He will not change.

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Yea, meaning yes, His promise is true and Amen, meaning let it be done. Putting it in a different perspective, God’s righteousness is God’s Holiness in action.

Another aspect of being right in everything is truth. Because He is the Righteous God He is the only reliable source of truth. His antithesis is Satan, the father of lies. Because Satan speaks the spirit language he can speak lies to us. Since this is true our only hope of knowing the truth is in knowing God.

John 14:6a Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:

John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

The Holy Spirit, the third person, is the Spirit of Truth.

God is Just

Psalm 89:13-14 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

Because God is love and love needs an object to pour itself out upon, then in order to come within His presence to receive that great love, sin has to be dealt with because of God’s holiness. Judgment and justice is required to deal with sin for the wages of sin is death.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God’s sense of justice leads us to His solution, faith in Christ.

Romans 7:7c I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Because God is Holy, Loving, and Just, and all sin leads to death, in order for God not to violate His character of holiness and love, His justice has to be equal to all mankind regardless of the sin. If a lie leads to death and murder leads to death, then any sentence which provides an escape from that death penalty must be just and equal. Acquittal in the heavenly courts cannot therefor by judged by the offense but rather by the terms of the escape clause.

Hebrews 2:3,12:25 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

Psalm 8:3 Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Psalm 68:20 He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death.

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.
