Safe Haven

Deuteronomy 4:41-43 Then Moses severed three cities on this side Jordan toward the sunrising; That the slayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities he might live: Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, of the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.

Bezer = gold ore or remote fortress

Ramoth = heights, sublime, difficult to attain to

Golan = their captivity; their rejoicing

How significant is the number three in what Moses has done to provide a safe haven for those who are guilty of the blood of man, but yet innocent? Then meaning of the number three is significant and has baffled biblical scholars for years as the its depths. If you will allow me, I would like to take us all the way back to the initial importance and try to make a connection between our origins and our present condition.

Three first and foremost is significant in things that are real, solid and have form. They consist of height, width and depth. Our first present correlation should be seen in this three dimensional reference.

Ephesians 3:17-19

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Moses so long ago cut out a safe haven to point to the coming Christ. If the number three in itself is not enough to point the way, taken into consideration the meaning of the three places.

Bezer is gold ore, that which has not gone thru the refiner’s fire, the purification process. Malachi 3:2 speaking to the coming Christ.

Ramoth is His Holy Hill, difficult to attain to great eights. Read Psalm 24.

Golan speaking to having been taken captive. Read Psalm 68:18.

Not to mention, but I must, Psalm 9:9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

And the scoffers say that Jesus Christ isn’t in the Old Testament, let them be silenced.
