Devotion

Acts 17:23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

How can you give devotion to someone you do not know? People do it. Some might even tell you “I worship the God of my forefathers.” I might answer “Fine, when are you going to make him yours?”

We can pass down tradition. We can pass down religion. We can pass down pride. The issue here is not in what is passed down but what is picked up. You have to make it yours. It has to be personal.

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Do you follow tradition or Christ?

Do you follow religion or Christ?

Do you follow the path of least resistance or Christ?

Do you follow your heart or Christ?

If you have given your heart to Christ, then yes follow your heart because that is devotion, true devotion.

Luke 2:28-32 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Simeon believed that his redeemer would be born. He had prayed to live long enough to see his redeemer and was granted his wish. Having seen the baby Jesus Simeon was now ready to depart this earth.

The baby Jesus had done nothing yet. No miracles, no words of life, no sacrifice, nothing, He was just a baby. Simeon’s prayers were answered but the substance of his prayers were not yet fulfilled, redemption. Simeon was satisfied with what he got to see. He had enough to satisfy his desires.

Have you met your redeemer? If so, are you satisfied? Are you a babe in Christ who is now ready to leave this earth? I have to tell you there are some who like Simeon only cared to meet his redeemer. I have to tell you that if that is enough to satisfy you, maybe your expectations are lower than they could be, since like the baby Jesus, the best is yet to come.

Psalm 40:8a  I delight to do thy will, O my God:

Babes haven’t done anything yet, the delight is in the doing.
