Little Things

Exodus 29:20 Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.

As I was reading for yesterday’s devotional I noticed this nice little piece of scripture. In many ways it seems like a little thing and we read past verses like these as we look to the bigger significances like the atoning sacrifice. Yet here, in the midst of those significant signs we spoke of yesterday, is this sign.

Anointing is usually done with water or oil. Here the blood of the sacrifice is used to anoint body parts. The right ear, the right thumb and the right great toe. Right is the significant power hand. Ear to hear, thumb to grasp, big toe to walk and keep balance.

Can you see the significance of design here? God is telling us that thru the blood sacrifice we are anointed to hear, handle and walk with the power.

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Not that we possess the power but that the power possess us. He does not use His power at our command but rather at the will of God. He, I say He for the power is God.

Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

2 Corinthians 1:21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

Eating

Exodus 29:32-33 And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And they shall eat those things wherewith the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy.

Yesterday I made reference to the curse of eating and the cure by eating, but never actually explained the eating. This will be an attempt to explain the eating and what it does represent.

Here in Exodus 29 are relevant passages about the eating and the atonement. Note carefully that the eating is not the atonement. It clearly state, and I quote, “wherewith the atonement was made”. The eating is a sign or a symbol of where the atoning sacrifice was made.

1 Corinthians 10:15-17 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

Within the definition of communion is this one line that draws all this together. “the right hand as a sign and pledge of fellowship” Eating is not the atonement but rather a sign of the pledge to the atoning sacrifice, Jesus Christ.

Do not make the mistake that the eating and drinking within the sacrament of the communion is the body and blood of Christ in reality. It is a sign of your pledge to Him who died for your sins.

Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Remember your pledge.
