Promotion

John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

In this world we seek promotion from others. In the military promotion can come due to time in service. If you have done nothing to be demoted, you may be granted a promotion just for time in service. One example is prisoners of war. Their time in service continues, promotions are merited because of time and if they are ever freed, they receive all their back pay at current rates for ranks given.

In the Kingdom life we first become servants, given commandments with expectations.

John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commandments.

In the Kingdom faithfulness is rewarded with promotion.

Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

There is a transformation from a servant who is told nothing of why to obey, to a friend who is told the mysteries of the Kingdom. Only those who have proven themselves trustworthy are given access.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

If you think this only applies to young children, allow me to remind you that anyone who is reborn in the spirit (John 3:3,5) becomes a babe in Christ and knows nothing of the Kingdom they just entered. This could happen at any age, even old age.

Evangelism

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

I am not an evangelist. In all likelihood neither are you. There may be among my readers, one or some who may be called to evangelize. This devotional isn’t about that.

Think about those big tent meeting or the filled stadium where people come forward to give their life to Christ. The main speaker at those events is in all likelihood an evangelist. Now answer me this; how did those that received Christ come to be in that place, that day, that hour, for that purpose?

Do not say advertising. People throw circulars away without a thought. They ignore posters at a glance, they change the channel during commercials. So how do so many end up giving their lives to Christ on those days? It is likely they had someone like you in their lives doing the prep work.

2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

We, each and every one of us, have been given the ministry of reconciliation. This ministry is the leading edge of evangelism and is done one on one, in relationship. The saying is bring someone to Christ but the truth is bring Christ to someone. He dwells in the hearts of His believers and reveals Himself to those that are called to respond with a yes.

Do you believe that Christ dwells in your heart? If so then why would you ever think that He is less than God just because He dwells in you? Evangelism begins with you and might be finished in the big tent meeting, in your local church, or maybe, just maybe in your own home.
