John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

It is as simple as that. This is the answer to the loneliness which we all felt until our relationship was restored with God. At this time I can hear some of you asking; “How can I see the Son if He died two thousand years ago?” The simple answer is that if you have to ask the question, then the eyes of your understanding have not yet been opened.

Daniel 4:34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

Old Neb was tired of being an animal and when he came to the end of his strength, he looked to God and God gave him understanding. Apart from God there is nothing that restores understanding, sight or salvation.

Matthew 13:23a But he that received seed (the gospel) into the good ground (a heart prepared) is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it;

You might as; “So if the gospel is simple, why is this so complicated? Why can’t I just believe?” I think that is a fair question, so let me ask you a fair question.

If I said that all you have to do to be saved is to trust God, would you believe me? Probably not if we have not established a relationship in which I have proven myself to you. If your car is broken you go to a mechanic. If your computer doesn’t work you get a geek to fix it. If your appendix ruptures, you need a surgeon. So if you have a dead spirit in your heart, who is going to quicken it and bring you back into covenant relationship with God?

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

We return again to the scene of the crime. God said don’t, Adam did. It is that simple. A warning was given that was attached to Adam’s disobedience, death. Given that God is not a liar and that Adam lived in the flesh for many years, what death did Adam experience the day he disobeyed?

Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Adam and Eve were removed from the intimate relationship they had shared with God and denied access to the tree of life. Everything within our reality feels the void that was created in that moment, and we are born with it. Being removed from God’s presence is called spiritual death. That which was alive in Adam and Eve, spiritual life, died that day. Adam lived for hundreds of years before his body died, but his spiritual death happened that day.

That longing for reversal of the pronouncement of spiritual death left a void in Adam’s heart which became that part of our human nature that screams “I am alone!” A void is a vacuum and the nature of a vacuum is to be filled again. The worst attribute of the vacuum of loneliness sucks the life out of everything around it. This was demonstrated when Cain killed his brother Abel.

Did Cain understand this loneliness? Why else did he offer sacrifices to God of his field? When his sacrifice was not respected sin came knocking at his door. Cain opened that door without understanding the nature of the sin he was about to commit.

We all try to fill that vacuum of loneliness without understanding why it exist or the consequences of filling that void with anything other than what was lost that first day.
