Daily

Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

We have been talking about the issues of our daily salvation and yesterday we spoke of abiding in Christ. These daily benefits afforded to us by the God of our salvation, our daily salvation, how do we access these benefits?

When Jesus taught us how to pray He included “give us this day our daily bread”. There is a devotional called The Daily Bread. It is not unlike this devotional in intent and design. It is a breakfast snack. It is a little spiritual nourishment to jump start your spiritual day. Do you think this is what Jesus meant in the Lord’s prayer?

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Never hunger, never thirst; never does not sound like a snack. These devotionals were never meant to become a meal, they are meant to stir up an appetite for the abiding presence of Jesus Chris within you. Give me more of You Lord Jesus. All your fullness I have received, show me more of You.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

2 Corinthians 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

Abiding in your heart, a living epistle.

True Purpose

John 8:31-36  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

The purpose of truth is to set you free from the power of sin. Sin enslave those who have not received Jesus Christ into their hearts and received the Spirit of Truth. If we fail to realize the purpose of truth, we will seek truth as an advantage over others.

Human survival has taught us to take advantage of others. Knowledge has always been a tool of commanders in the field. Knowledge gives corporate killers an advantage in the stock market. Truth is rooted deep in blackmail. That is another type of truth. That is not our true Lord.

In verse 31 above “if you continue in my word” is at the forefront of all the issues related to truth, freedom and the power over sin. To quote a truth from a science fiction movie from the past, “Your brain leaks.” Our brains are flesh and subject to decay. As with all things related to the use of this mortal coil, use it or lose it.

Yes the implication here is to read the Word of God and to read it daily. Absolutely but the greater issue is “continue in” is speaking about abiding.

John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
