Trinity

Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

How does this verse lead me to think about the Trinity? It is simple. If I were to say you were simple, you would be wounded. You are not simple, you are complex. Yet so often we think in those terms, about wounds, offenses, and the hurt that words can bring.

What if simple here were not a person but a thing to be examined? In my previous life’s experience I was an inspector. Any time I was about to perform an inspection of a complex creation, there was the very first step in establishing data collection for conformance. The design was illustrated on a drawing and the first observation was always to establish the data plane.

It takes three points to establish a plane. You might have a better feel for the vision if I spelled it plain, as in the great plains of the mid-west. First you establish data point A. A point in and of itself is a focal point, it exists alone and nothing exist but that point. It is alone in design to be the singular most important feature in a design. Let us label Data Point A as God the Father.

Data Point B is the second feature found in design. Two points define direction. Let us label Data Point B as Jesus Christ. There is established between those two points a direct line. It is fixed and is known as relational direction to the design.

Data Point C is the third element of design which establishes the plane. It has a fixed position which is in relationship not only to Data Point A and B but also the line between the A and B. This one we will label the Holy Spirit.

The inspection of the design must first establish this data plain in order to inspect the design and in this the inspector must create a fixture where the three data points define that boundary which cannot be crossed.

We shall now affix the created complex design to this fixture using three nails.

Now measurements can be taken.

Error

Isaiah 29:24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

I have been reading the works of a doctor of divinity that has been labeled a heretic by the Catholic Church. I will concede that their attack on the man’s writings were with cause. Heresy I did not find. What I did find was an error in spirit in how he approached his feelings about the Catholic Church.

An open attack upon a man’s religion invites hostility and does not make for peace. His error in spirit put millions of people at risk of never discovering the blessings of insight into many a difficult position in scripture.

Was everything he wrote perfect? No of course not, he was an academic. His writings are full of beautiful convincing words. His intellect was evident in every expression. He was not right in every aspect. Should I ignore all the good in favor of self-protection? I choose not to do that. Can others?

Truth comes in the form of the Holy Spirit.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Spirit of Truth which is in you and instructs you in all things in the Lord, will show you error, and show you how to deal with it, if you will but listen and obey.

Going about labelling people because they err does not correct their behavior nor their doctrine. It will disconnect you from any good that they might do in the name of the Lord.

A great mystery of God is His ability to use flawed people to bless flawed people.
