Times A’wastin

Job 11

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said, Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified? Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

Answers, justification, peace, and shame or repentance, if you will have it, are all the prevue of God. It is however the effort of men to produce such things, to bring to mankind these things. Those who do that will never admit there is a God much less their’ glory to God.

Ecclesiastes 1:16-18 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

I have seen rich men commit suicide and genius go insane. The common denominator in all is a failure to find true satisfaction at the end of all that they accomplished, vexation of spirit. I am sure that there are many more that appear to have pride of life, which is an appearance to us, but does not speak to the issues of their true heart nor their end. Such is the condition of pride of life.

Psalm 90:14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Heaven forbid that they should allow anyone else be the source of their satisfaction, joy and gladness. After all their anthem is “Look what I have done.”

Vexation of spirit is a waste of time.

Leaf Turning

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Happy New Year.

Did you made New Year’s resolutions? I did not. Never have. While it is not the same thing as swearing an oath, it does point to something in one’s life that needs to change. If that is the case, why wait for a New Year to make that turning? Do you think that you will be able to change your behavior just because you turn the page on a calendar?

2 Corinthians 4:15-16 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

When I hear resolutions they appear to be about the external being, that which is seen of others. If the resolve to do what is right comes from the inner man, then would not the condition of the inner man control the actions of the outer? Being renewed day by day is in being instant, not waiting on time to change.

2 Timothy 4:2b …be instant in season, out of season; …

Do not wait to do the right thing.

2 Chronicles 2:14 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God:

Psalm 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Help me Lord, day by day. Amen
