Trust Issues

Proverbs 3:5-6 English Standard Version

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Here is my confession, I am a person with trust issues. Life can do that to us. I will not go into every detail, there isn’t enough time for that. Just one example, someone I knew shot me.

So how do we come to the point in this relationship with God that we can trust Him with all our heart and ignore our own understanding? The greatest test of trust is to begin small, allow Him the opportunity to prove Himself trustworthy.

Time and time again God has proven to me that He is faithful, righteous, just, merciful, gracious and most important of all consistent. Consistency in any relationship develops trust.

Psalm 139:23-24 English Standard Version

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

The basic issue here is asking God to correct the heart condition and change our minds.

Have we tried that? Have we searched His Word to discover where we went wrong? It does no one any good to seek scriptures that validate our thinking because we will twist the meaning to serve our own self-interests.

Jeremiah 6:16 English Standard Version

16 Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,and find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

To seek and discover the right path and then refuse to take it is arrogant.

Knowing the truth has no value if you cannot trust it enough to do what is right.

Follow what is right and discover God is trustworthy. If we are not willing to listen, believe and obey, what is to be said about us?
