PS 24 3a

Psalm 24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

Let us look at the symbolism of the hill first. There are two instant observations to be made. The first is effort and the second is the view.

Prophets of old who attained to the office of the prophet like Samuel spent a lifetime dedicated to study and meditation. They put forth an enormous amount of effort to establish this relationship to serve God. While the office of the prophet exists no longer, the gift remains. Simply put it means to know the revealed mine of Christ.

As with all relationships, the more you are there for Him the better you get to know Him, intimately. This is a matter of effort on our part. This relationship is what we make of it in our effort to read the Word and meditate on it. Then as we become a trusted dependable friend, He will show us His mind in matters that concern Him.

The higher the hill the more that can be seen afar off. What are you going to see?

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

Within the temptations of Christ by Satan, we see the anti or opposing images. Taken to a high place to be shown with intention the desires of the author of the vision. In this case Satan wanted Jesus to worship him before God.

We do not come to the heights with our Lord to see His purpose until after we have made Him the Lord of our lives. Satan took the Lord to the heights, there was no effort. We have to make the effort. Our resolve is tested. Our spiritual muscles are strengthened. And now we come to the second part of Psalms 24:3 to stand.
