What Promise

Titus 1:1-3 English Standard Version

1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began 3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;

In verse 2 Paul declares that God made a promise before He created everything. Since God was alone in eternity it begs to ask, to whom did He make a promise and what was that promise.

John 1:1-3 English Standard Version

The Word Became Flesh

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John’s gospel has declared that Jesus Christ, the Son of God is the Word. God the Father and Jesus Christ created all things. We will discover God’s promise in the life of Jesus Christ.

John the Baptist reveals his duty to God in this one line of scripture.

John 3:29 English Standard Version (ESV) The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.

JB’s purpose was to introduce the bride to the bridegroom.

The promise of God the Father to His Son was to create for Him a bride to love and be loved by her.

How He came about achieving that promise can only be discovered in His Word.

Which One

Now we have to decide who we know, Jesus, the Messiah, or the Lord.

We get to know Him by His Word. In that way we get to know Him as the man, the Son of God. Getting to know why He came and what He accomplished is important if we are to place our faith in Jesus, we need to know why.

As the forerunner anointed priest we shall know the Messiah in our own ministries. We will discover our gifts and callings and know how we fit together in this body of Christ, His universal church, by coming to know Him as our anointed priest.

At some point we must come to a point where we surrender to His Lordship. There is no obedience of faith that exists without Jesus sitting on the Right Hand Throne of God in the position of power.

How do any of us get to know all that He is in person, title and position?

The Work of the Holy Spirit

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

How will we know what He wants of us as Lord if it is not declared to us?

Chapter and verse was not given here. We shall recognize the truth when we hear it and see it, when the Spirit of Truth confirms it.
