The Abiding

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

When we finished yesterday the issue at hand was the Comforter abiding in you. We will often find ourselves in a position of thinking that we know all truths, which is error. Any particular truth about any particular thing, event, person or circumstance still lays within the purview of God’s will. The Comforter is there to reveal Truth, Jesus Christ.

The gift of discernment is not given to every believer and is bestowed upon those with a right heart, right thinking, and have proven themselves to be loyal to the will of God in private matters.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

Be not confused, your mind is not the mind of Christ but because of the abiding Spirit, you have access to His thoughts. Having access does not guarantee that you will use it. I will from time to time rely on my memory rather than do a check in my spirit for truth. When we do that, our minds are flesh and subject to failure of memory. This is why it is important to read our bible afresh and reaffirm those words into the recesses of our memories.

Repetition is the price of knowledge. (Dr. Keith Lamb)

Mind Renewal

Romans 12:1-3 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

If there a matter of just mind renewal I could have quote verse 2 alone but it is not. First there must be a sacrifice of your own thinking. Your mind is part of your body and subject to sacrifice just as much as the remainder of self. Before we came to Christ our thoughts were already full of error. We have to overcome erroneous thinking with truth.

Secondly you will want to know God’s will and that can only be accomplished by removing errors in thinking. We all come into His kingdom with some kind of preconceptions and it is never what we thought it would be. Even children who have been brought up in the Word will find that when they receive the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, mom and dad, grampa or grandma, teacher or tutor, did not have the same grasp of truth as God does.

John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
