Called

Genesis 12:1 The Call of Abram

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”

Exodus 3:3 The Call of Moses

And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”

We can understand how God got Moses’s attention but how did Abram know he was called by God since the gods of the Chaldeans were Marduk, Ishtar, Anu, Enlil, Ea, Sin, Shamash, Nabu, Nergal and Adad. None of those idols ever spoke to man.

How did Abram know he was listening to the Lord? The first to demonstrate faith would be a pioneer of the first order.

Moses saw a long history of faith demonstrated prior to his burning bush moment. The God of Abraham was known to Moses. Horeb was known to Moses as the mountain of God which was related to him by his wife and father-in-law. (Exodus 3:1) Moses would have had some indication that this sign was coming from God.

Now comes our real dilemma, how do we know God is calling us?

Is it a desire of the flesh or is it by faith that has already been placed in Jesus Christ?

The Hebrew word for weed is Zizanion, a kind of darnel, resembling wheat except the grains are black. During the bundling process it would be easy for the angels to identify one from the other.

Since we are told that the Lord does not judge by appearance, then we that follow the Lord are asked not to judge others by appearances.

Here is my advice in this area: if the darnel is to be changed into wheat, only God can change them, just as He did for us. If they are not with us, they will leave us on their own.
