Lordship

John 13:3 English Standard Version (ESV) Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

Hebrews 1:3 English Standard Version (ESV) He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

The right hand is both a seat of honor and power. Father God has turned everything and everybody over to Jesus Christ because Jesus was obedient unto death on the cross. Jesus is our free will offering for the forgiveness of all sin, for all mankind, forever.

We must accept that Jesus Christ is Lord so that we can put our faith in Him. He is God on the throne of heaven and the Lord of all life, to both the saved and the lost. It is only in accepting that as truth that we can submit ourselves to His lordship in order to be saved.

If man does not believe, he will not submit and his fate is sealed by his choice of unbelief.

John 3:18 English Standard Version (ESV) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 14:6 English Standard Version (ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

This one verse alienates more unbelieving people than any other. They were already alienated, they just don’t respect that truth.

Speak the truth in love and let love lead the way.

Third Step

Ephesians 2:4-10 English Standard Version

But[And] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

This a too much for anyone to take in all at once. We should point out one aspect found here to focus our attention on, faith.

Grace through faith is found because of where we have placed our faith. That is discovered in verse 7, “in Christ Jesus”. We can come back to the meatier parts of Ephesians 2 once we have discovered how we can put our faith in Christ. This is the key feature of grace. Grace is given not because of what we have done but because of what Christ has done.

So much focus has been put on what we must do to be saved that it obscures the truth. Jesus already did everything required for our salvation. All we have to do is believe and trust in Him.

Acts 16:30-31 English Standard Version (ESV) Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Key here in this simple act is a change of titles. Paul speaks to Jesus as Lord, not Christ nor Messiah, but as Lord.
