Today

Psalm 2:7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.

Today I declare that I remember what it was like before He said to me “You are mine”.

How I was before Jesus haunts me because I cannot understand why I was like that other guy. My rational mind says I was broken and did not know it. I cannot understand those behaviors before Jesus. They are foreign to me. How could I have been like that?

I cannot turn back the clock to examine my brokenness. It feels a little like gaining sight and then never wanting to seek blindness once again just because I can now see the ugliness.

  • Psalm 31:12
I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
  • Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

I do not want to be blind again.

  • Revelation 2:5
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
  • Revelation 3:3
Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.

Even if I should never sin again, I would still have something to repent of because being afraid of getting it wrong and not doing anything is ignoring the work that we are called to do.

Forget the past and live for today while it is still called today.

Hebrews 3:13

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

The deceitfulness of sin can be thinking we are so broken that we cannot be used.

Some Day

2 Thessalonians 2:3 King James Version

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

The King James version calls the rebellion a “falling away”.

  • Isaiah 34:4
All the host of heaven shall rot away, and the skies roll up like a scroll. All their host shall fall, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree.
  • John 16:1
“I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away.

What did Jesus say to His disciples to keep them from falling away? The summation of John 15 is in this statement.

John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”

It is why I insist on having my quiet time when I wake up. How I use that time, being in the Word, refreshing my mind and clearing the clutter of lies I have heard is for my benefit. I do not get to tell you what to do or how to do it because I am judgmental. What I do I do for myself.

Why His disciples stopped following Jesus in John 6:66 is their business. I can only protect myself from allowing the same thing from happening to me.

The Word says there is coming a time when many will be deceived. I don’t want to be one of them. You can call that selfish salvation if you want. That’s OK, I can only protect myself.

Look around and ask yourselves this question; “What has your attention?”

I know I am chosen. To what purpose, time and place is not for me to say but to live out.

You are right, I don’t like what is going on in the world right now. Voicing my opinion won’t change anything.

Preaching the gospel might make the difference to one person and if it does, then all the time I spend doing it is worthwhile.
