Never Fails

1 Corinthians 13:8a Love never fails

I fail all the time; does that mean I do not have the love of God in my heart?

No not at all. Failure is about faithfulness. In the parable of the talents we learned that we are only faithful in a few things, yet we are declared good and faithful servants. Ref. Matthew 25:21

If we have been only faithful in a few things how is it that we could be declared faithful?

Because He is talking about the abiding love that never fails.

Who is faithful?

1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

He who abides in you is faithful. His abiding love, is faithful. His love never fails.

We are not that love, we are the loved.

So many times we look at ourselves as failing God and forget that He is more powerful than our failings. God has never failed us, nor His Word, nor His will and we are powerless to change any of that.

We beat ourselves up for our unfaithfulness and never seem to grasp the deeper issue. His love is at work in us in those very moments, if we will but respond to Him by rededication, renewal of purpose and not allow our mistakes to stop us from trying again.

Get over it and get on with it.

Enduring Love

1 Corinthians 13:7d Love endures all things

We are speaking here about the abiding love of God in a Christian’s heart. Do you really think that anything from the outside world could ever possibly touch that love? It is God’s love, perfect, pure, holy, sanctifying, righteous, and the essence of God Himself. Really? Do you think anything can touch it?

Can’t touch this.

If that is true, and I do believe it is true, then what does love truly endure?

Me!

Love endures my ignoring it.

Love endures my disobedience of it.

Love endures my hiding it.

Love endures my flat refusal of releasing it.

Love endures my shame.

Love endures my walls.

Love endures me.

Eventually as love does what love does in me, it will break down every wall, every obstacle, every thought, every broken piece of me, to be what God needs me to be in this world.

All I have to do is subject myself to Him.

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Love will endure me and prove itself.
